Circular Argument

You'll need to bear with me for this post, as I have to give you some seemingly unrelated information in a certain order for this to make sense. It'll end up being like an episode of Desperate Housewives, where all the loose strands are tied up into one fashionable bow mere minutes before the end.

Trust me. I think it'll be worth it.

So, nugget number 1: After a catastrophic summer involving not one, but two, break-ups I recently decided to swear off love and men for twelve months. At least. Six weeks in, and I'm still going strong. Surprisingly strong, actually. I feel like I have more time for my friends, and more energy to do those random things I've been meaning to do for years now. Like start a fashion blog with my darling Kaylene.

Nugget number 2: As a kid I loved to play with Barbie dolls. Unfortunately, my childhood consisted of only one genuine doll, and three of those dodgy rip-offs. My love for the real Barbie entirely eclipsed her faux-Barbie friends.

Nugget number 3: I never had a Ken doll, though my childhood buddy had two. So Barbie had a serious, but long-distance, relationship with a Ken doll in the next street over. They often holiday-ed together.

(Side note: Barbie broke up with Ken in 2004, to date some young Australian Surfer dude. Even plastic love isn't fantastic).

(Does anyone else think Barbie looks surprisingly trampy in this photo? Short shorts with mesh top? And is that fake tan? It's just so divergent from her usual elegant style...)

Fourth Nugget of Information: This year is Barbie's 50th anniversary. To help her celebrate, designers like Vera Wang, Kenneth Cole and Anna Sui made an outfit they believed epitomised Barbie. Please Youtube it. It's beautiful, in a way.

The Nugget which I wish to provide fifth: Accessories are my thing. Especially bags. I'm addicted to handbags. When I'm feeling the energy, I will post a picture of my large array of handbags. And you will enjoy it. Will.

An epitome! Also known as Sixth nugget! In the Barbie fashion show, it occurred to me that a Ken doll has NOTHING to do with love or lust or whatever. A boyfriend is an ACCESSORY!

So, ladies and gentlemen, without further pomp and ceremony, allow me to introduce the it-bag for 2009: The Boyfriend!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

How did I never notice this before now?

My mum has a Ken....although I'm not sure he's such an "It bag" Ken.
